Frame number removed, a GP frame number engraved on and is on the V5 but now selling as an SX200. Can see what the problem is

Going to see what he says.

OFFS - I thought you said cheap. For something that's not even got the right identity I'd say cheap meant about a grand...

Hey bud.

If you remember I was looking at a bike that was meant to be genuine. So a genuine sx200 Italian for 4K would have been a great price. Do you think I would pay 4K for a ringer??

Not that stupid!

You shouldn't even be entertaining the idea of buying it, cheap or otherwise.

I was offered last year ......

A tv200
2 x sx200, one standard and one ts1
A gp22/2 frame with v5
Plus a van of spares including several original discs

ALL with legitimate paperwork for 3 grand. Yes, 3 grand for the lot.

It will probably be no surprise to anyone that none of the paperwork matched the frames.

I stomped off in a rage.

I did, it was obviously a stash that had been built up over a long period.

Not sure why, but through a mate i found that he got away with it.

As far as I'm concerned they were all someone else's loss regardless of whether yesterday or 20 years ago.

Remarkably I also know that one of them had a feature in scootering magazine! Im not saying the mag did anything wrong, just found it noteworthy.

He would have got away with it, for £3K someone just broke the lot up and sold it all on as parts and just ground all the numbers off the frames and engines.Priced to make himself a tidy profit as well as an attractive proposition to the unscrupulous. Plod would have dragged their feet and either got there too late or more likely didnt even bother at all..

The guy now told me that the frame was originally blank and he added the frame number. So I'm thinking it was a replacement frame??

He mentioned it had no grind marks so could be replacement. So basically a wrecked frame for nothing but how would you re register a frame without any number?

Your thoughts.

If it has no V5 now then you'd struggle to reregister it. You can, but you'd get a q plate - they'd want to inspect it then they issue a frame number and you have to permanently attach it to the frame.

In this case either an insurance inspector or DVLA inspector would choke on a restamped frame as it smacks of a ringer.
