if you filled a can with 1ltr 4% mix and drilled a very small hole in the can and timed how long it took to drain and then did the same but at 2% . in theory the 4% would take longer to drain as its thicker (less viscouse). at 4% this then in theory would make you run weak i e less petrol going in ..... just a theory

I always use Super as apparently it is less likely to contain Ethanol. The last time I filled up with standard from a supermarket pump was back in June at the Morrisons at Harwich, all seemed fine until my next re-fuel and the rubber seal in the fuel cap had swelled so much that I couldn't get the cap back on! But as a rule I will always use super if it is available, if not I don't really worry...oh and Rockoil Groundsman which has served me fine for many thousands of miles

That makes sense as the rubber seal in the fuel cap is likely to be only base rubber. From my understanding & experience, other components within the fuel delivery & combustion process are likely to be relatively Ethanol resistant, typically oil-seals obtained from Europe/Japan, though some Dealers will gladly sell you expensive alternatives. However, for the cost involved, it makes sense to fit Viton fuel float needles if the carb is apart for any reason.

I commented about the additional benefits of the oil in two-strokes in general further up this Post, as we are not alone in our concerns in the 'Two-stroke World' as can be read on t'Internet & most fears allayed

Hmmm, yes.

Obviously not in your case, but I read so often that Forum members add oil to their usual mix ratio in the case of running in, which effectively leans the ratio.

Can you tell 'em though?

i've been running exol fully synth at 3% with 95 unleaded in an RT 225 motor for 3 years and it's done 5,000 miles, recently hard to start and low compression.
on strip down little evidence of blow by on piston although rings were shot, light build up of carbon on head and piston crown, exhaust and transfers clear.

2 club mates running standard cast iron barrels on 2% exol and 95 unleaded have experienced gummed rings and huge build up of carbon in exhaust and transfer ports over similar mileages.

it's been suggested that the cast iron barrel is running hotter and burning more of the oil thus giving the huge coke build up.

they have now gone back to Rockoil fully synth at 2%

although i've not had a lubrication problem i've now gone back to Rock as well but now at 2.5%

the Exol at 3% was very smokey at start up, the Rock at 2.5% is not (of course this just could be because i'm putting less oil in)

Strange isn't it, my Sugello running at 4% Groundsman is almost smoke free were as when I was using Silkolene scoot 2 semi at 4% it sometimes smoked like a bonfire, will be interesting to what the internals are like on strip down at the end of the year.
