The inner rear brake cable slides into a part that pivots which is attached to the brake pedal
This pivot section can either face forward, be upright or face backwards
Can anyone say which is the right position, I can't find a photo of it anywhere

Offer the brake pedal up to its mounting pin on the chassis.Should then become evident that it faces to the rear.

If you have a copy of"Sticky's"manual theres a photo of it on page 158 (I have a copy of the second edition of the manual)

And you'll still need four hands to get it adjusted.

Rear brake cable fitting tips.

If you are using a traditional cable, get a new one and fit the cable to the adjuster first. It is much easier to do this in the vice, rather than in the confines of the back of the engine.

At the front, take the bolt that secures the cable and cut a shallow groove on the threaded end in line with the direction of the hole that the cable goes through. You are just using this groove as an indicator when you fit the cable.

Fit the outer cable with top-hats at each end, and into the frame/engine. Grease up the inner and feed it into the outer, through the back of the engine. With the front pedal assembled, rotate the securing bolt to align with the direction of the incoming cable (using the newly-cut groove as a clue) and feed the inner through the securing bolt. Fit the nut, but don’t tighten it up yet.

Go to the rear adjuster and use a cable tie around the brake actuating arm and the bottom shock lug to take-up the slack. As you do this, a bit more cable will slide through the securing bolt at the pedal-end. There is no need to pull the inner cable with mole-grips. Only now should you tighten this bolt at the pedal.

You can then cut the cable tie and adjust the adjuster.

Of course, this task is even easier if you use a cable with a crimped-on adjuster. It’s a pity I don’t sell them any more.

Why don't you sell the simple cables anymore?

There are some sellers on Ebay that sell the QR inner,but Innocenti did them in two sizes,early ones were 3mm and later ones 2.5mm.If you get the 3mm one and you have a 2.5mm outer you stuffed.I should add that non of these sellers has the size of inner cable that they sell.

Too much competition Ross. Mine were top quality (2000+ sold and none returned - ever), but I was selling them for only a few pence more than the manufacture cost plus p&p and eBay fees. Others are doing them now, but still no one sells the cable with a 2.5mm wire, as Paul correctly observes.

If anyone gets stuck, I might have one or two NOS 2.5mm cables in the workshop.
