Standard rim on sip studs

Postby Watfordwhite » Sat May 26, 2018 1:45 pm

This may be a silly question, but will standard rims fit on SIP Tubless studs?
Planning a trip and need to carry a spare. The only ones I have are standard rims. Will this work or do I need to buy more SIP rims?

No problem at all, I had to put my tubed spare on the other week while I got a new tyre fitted to my SIP rim, nuts just go on a bit further. I did around 100 miles with it like that, SIP back on for Spain now 8-)

What can be interesting is trying to fit the SIP rim on your inside legshield carrier if that is what you have - on mine the carrier studs are not long enough.

The solution I found was to fit two long head nuts to the carrier studs and then fix the SIP rim to the other end of the nuts with two short bolts.

Yea but use open nylocs instead of the SIP nuts. As Ranburetta says you will also need to think about how to mount a SIP rim on your carrier, I use hex connector type nuts on mine
