Hi,
Looking for guidance please, scooter has been running perfectly fine this year until the other day, engine will start but only runs for a few seconds before it stops with all the symptoms of running out of fuel, carb has been stripped and jets cleaned several times to no avail. Spark plug is always wet after attempt of starting.
Checking for spark, if normal kick start there is no spark, put scooter on block to increase kickstart travel and a spark is evident although not very strong.
Would I be correct in suspecting the CDI unit of the Varitronic ignition system.

You can buy a very cheap CDI online. It will prove the problem one way or the other. If that's not the problem them you have a cheap "get you home" spare. Under £11 delivered. They work fine.
Probably then it's the LT Coil on the stator.

I thought Variatronic ignition systems ran a different CDi. I'd be surprised if you can pick one up for a £11?
