Cruising speed dies

I have a 185 engine with Dellorto 25 set up by supplier for 185/200 and standard series 2 exhaust.
When cruising/maintaining any speed between 40 and 50 it feels like I am riding into spasmodic gusts of wind ie engine seems to labour slightly. If I accelerate it seems to clear.
Could it be I need to change main jet if so would it be up or down in size. If it's not this any suggestions.
Cheers
Terry

You'll need to give a lot more detail about your setup including all the jet sizes currently fitted before you get any definitive advice. Also not sure about your symptoms, is it sounding like a machine gun or just hesitant? Also what position is the throttle at? the main jet doesn't do anything until round 3/4 to full throttle.

Sounds like its running a bit rich as the needle lifts, Try running at a set speed and turning on your choke. it should bog down, I suspect thats what you are feeling. Drop your needle one notch to see if it improves that area. I suspect as you increase the throttle you are moving onto the main jet as it settles down. Plug colour at all speeds, and marking your throttle so you can see at what point it splutters will all help. You can even try running without the main jet fitted and see if it is before the main kicks in. You will be able to ride round town up to half throttle without any problems but bog as soon as the missing main kicks in. I found it quickly teaches you to feed in the throttle smoothly.
Whatever you do you need to check and check again your plug colour.
