clattery sound

got a bit of a clattery sound started from inside the side casing. disappears when I pull the clutch in. any ideas what I should/could be looking for before I take the side casing off?

Kickstart engaging with 1st gear?

As above could be kickstart catching first gear. With the engine running hold the kickstart and pull it upwards, if the sound changes or disappears thats your answer.
Failing that you will need to remove side cover and check gearbox bearings etc for excessive wear.

no guys it's not the kickstart, I know that sound.
just looking for a list of suggestions once I get inside (if it's nothing obvious) easiest checks first.
don't want start swapping bearings etc if it could be something simpler.

Its something to do with your gears,cluster or plain clutch plates and endplate bearing,they're the only thing that stops spinning when you pull the clutch lever.

chain tensioner had slipped making the loose chain clattery. amplified no doubt by the fact I only had about 50ml oil in the bloody thing.
all better now and full of oil
