just bought an ultrasonic thingy and carb cleaning fluid for it. to clean a couple of sh1 original carbs. anyone used one before? if so any tips and advice welcome. cheers in advance of replies.

A mate of mine has one and said if you use the wrong medium in the water it can pit the soft alloy body

I took sticky's advice on this and used cilit bang. It worked well.

I thought cillit bang was not to be used on alloy, thats if a carb is alloy? alluminium, not sure really?

All I can say is it did mine no harm.

I bought one recently. On its second outing the transducer fell off and caused the wiring in the box to smoke badly. Good job I was nearby. Awaiting a replacement.

I had a Vespa carb ultrasonically cleaned twice. Neither attempt worked. A new carb sorted the issue.

I am just giving this feedback so you don’t think that ultrasonically cleaning a carburettor always works.

I would add that the said Vespa carb had been in the Scooter since the late ‘70s without turning a wheel in anger

just to add
my carb on inspection does look clean and not completely caked in crap.
it has been running but have had issues with mixture and seizing after running for about 10 mins. so want to give it a good clean believing that there might be a 'turd' inside somewhere.
i might be barking up the wrong tree but want to rule out the possibility of a dirting or partially blocked carb ( inside)
