I've bought an early li/sx clutch flange (pressure plate) by mistake, can I cut away the bar underneath , to convert to a later one

Yes. Just chop it off, although the pin is hardened so you won’t be able to use a hack saw. I used a die grinder to do the one i recently did. Good luck.

Just double checking i mean the stem underneath so it turns it into a later li one, not the top pin

Yes the stem not the top pin with the thimble.
