Flywheel differences

Newb here again, I know, asking obvious questions but hey I am that noob of noobs hehe

Anyway, what is the flywheel differences, I was sorted out a "Li" crank flywheel but its depth is totally too much by a couple inches by the looks of thinks, the spigot of the crank pin didn't even go through the centre hole and wondered, is there a difference in size for 125 engines to others, it is a ser 3 Li125.

The BGM stator fits in a treat but not the flywheel it seems :( Its only this part that is holding the engine up now as the rest is ready to go, carb is good, new stainless "shotgun" exhaust, did the cylinder gaskets and had a look in there whilst it was open, good bore and piston, nice clean rings and clean recesses for the rings, compression is spot on and all the bits work like gears, clutch, brakes.

As for stators, I see Beedspeed do a Wassel conversion on a standard electronic stator of the owner, is this better or worse than a BGM and does it need a matching flywheel or does any electronic flywheel fit?

I will be prob heading for a 186 cylinder kit in the not too far off future and am thinking that everywhere seems to advise fitting a GP crank, do I need to change the mag housing for this upgrade or do I change the bearings to accomodate the difference in spigot?

OK noob session over...

Hi ian,
You can fit a gp200 crankshaft to your existing mag housing but use the wider nu2205 bearing and leave out spacer. On an electronic flywheel two adjacent magnets have the metal plates with an extension these flag the pick up trigger to signal the cdi to prodce spark.Look at page 134 top two pictures Sticky's second edition the magnets at 1 oclock and 2 oclock have the extensions right hand pic the extension is shown at 6 oclock. On a points fly wheel all magnets look the same.As Lammy Dave says an Li flywheel wont fit a GP crankshaft. I believe the electronic flywheels are only available for gp crankshafts but not sure. I am sticking with points.
If you dont have The complete Spanners manual by Sticky Round you should consider investing in one

I am going through Sticky's manual freshly delivered today, hopefully no more noobie questions from this old 'un :)

It is definitely a thin taper Li crank and it being perfectly serviceable, I would rather get some use out of it as no point in rebuilding a working engine unless its crucial is my thought.

I've measured across and it is not an Li flywheel, I am wondering if it is a Lambretta flywheel as the magnets etc are some two inches too long in depth and it is grounding against the mag house stud and nuts with still a couple inches for the spigot to get through the hole and the hole itself is definitely wider than the spigot so if it is, its a GP spigot in any case.

Damned good manual, been making furious notes on electrics and all sorts and putting them on post it notes to help me build bit and pieces up :)

There's a few pics of the prob I have, the last pic shows the base of the flywheel up against the mag housing studs and the spigot hasn't even got enough to sneak a thread on the old centre nut :( So to me this looks like it needs the central bit to be is it concave rather than convex? Trouble is flywheels aint cheap and I can't afford to trial and error really so if someone can hit the nail on the head for me and say "yes that is such and such a flywheel" the electronic stator has a K2 pickup on it so I would need an electronic one as well although points is looking quite desireable right now just to get her up n running lol

I've invested in a SR interchangeable flywheel which means I can keep the setup if I put in a GP crank later on as the boss kits are only £15 which is a lot cheaper than whole new flywheel lol

Looking the photos, my immediate reaction is that the crank is Li, and the flywheel is GP (DL). Does anyone else agree?

Well by buying the interchangeable boss kit, means if I get it wrong I can just buy another and get it right :)

Apart from legshields, a possible tank if my one is knacked and side panels, I do believe I have got it all to put it together now and get her motoring Yay
