Remagnetising A Flywheel

An early Li/SX/TV Ducati points brass flywheel with 6 poles has been used for this guide.The magnetic strength of the flywheel was low,I could feel it by placing a screwdriver in the magnets.The procedure is similar for all the points Italian (Ducati/Filso/Marelli) flywheels using alnico magnets and having 6 poles.
A compass will help to determine the magnetic pole configuration of the flywheel,the red tip of the needle usually shows North.
lt is important to find the polarity of each magnet of the flywheel (and mark it with a pen) because they need to make opposite polarity pairs with the magnetiser.
The polarity of the magnets changes from North to South.
Measure with a flux meter the strength of each magnet.
There is a central switch with 3 positions,
Left Carica (Charge),neutral,right Scarica (discharge).
The plug socket.
Spento is Off,Acceso is On.
Unplugged.
Switch it On.The top red power indicator will glow.
Click right the central switch to Discharge for a few seconds.
For safety reasons (this is not necessary) ,I unplug the socket before I fit the flywheel.The power indicator goes off.
Place the flywheel on the magnetiser and try to match the opposite polarity pairs.
Switch on.
Click left the central switch to charge the magnets,a green light will glow.
If the alignment was not correct,the magnetic force will force the flywheel and will auto correct it.The flywheel will rotate (a little scary
)
The green light starts to fade few seconds later,the flywheel is fully charged/magnetised when it goes out completely
Check with the flux master the improved strength of each magnet.
