Hi hope someone can help. I want to fit a mid range petrol tank in my Series 2 whilst keeping the tool box. They all seem to be advertised for Series 3 though and when I enquired to one dealer he said the space in a Series 2 was smaller than a Series 3?
Has anyone got one fitted and can recommend where to buy?
Cheers in advance Mark

I bought one of those mid range tanks - the one that bolts into the air inlet and seat plate and was assured it would fit straight into a S2
It didn't - miles away. Sadly sprayed it before I checked - so couldn't return it
Ended up taking the front lip off completely and getting it rewelded. Still a tight fit and needs a shove to go in.
The rear hinged bracket failed after about 2k miles - so had to take it out and weld that again with a strengthening angle
why they can't make it 1ltr smaller so it would glide in.
All that said - couldn't go back to a standard tank - takes the stress out of finding a petrol station after 50 miles for each trip

From my experience......some tanks will fit, some won't. I think this is due to some frames being slightly different to others. Original tanks have quite a bit of play so the area and brackets around the tank didn't have to be overly accurate. The mid-range tanks are a very tight fit....if they fit.
Good luck.

Not S2 specific but what I don't understand is why when they've gone to the bother of designing and building a replacement product they didnt move the hole for the petrol tap back by a few millimetres - in so many cases the tap fowls the engine mounts.
