Try as I might I can,t find a : how to do a leak down check : link or info on here.
Would like to check if seals etc ok before pulling apart further.
I have oil coming from the clutch arm rod hole in the chaincase plus from around the gear shaft which has run down the casing and thrown onto the sidewall of rear tyre initial thought was blown rear bearing seal.
Rear shoes dry as is inside rear hub thankfully as was out on a ride when I noticed at a petrol station the state of the sidewall of my tyre.
Checked oil level in g/box at petrol station and was just below the upper level check bung so continued on my way all bit it carefully..

Drained just over 1/2 ltr out when drained the g/box the next day and stripped down to investigate cause.
Aware it could be blocked air vent in the fill plug ( yet to check this ) .
Condition of engine unknown to me as I bought as a running roadworthy scooter last year.
Been wanting an excuse to have a nose inside and carry out a few mods along the way.

The chances are that the oil seepage is due to the clutch rod & gear-change rod having worn 'O' rings, in which case, the bearing bushes most certainly will be in need of change too.

Replacements are not expensive, particularly if you shop around, the best prices probably being @ power transmission suppliers.

The replacement of the parts is not difficult, but does involve a fair bit of dismantling....

Could it be pressure from a leaky main seal pushing the oil out ? Whip the breather out and see if there is any pressure with the motor running.

doing a leakdown test would tell you if your drive side seal has failed, ive just repaired mine for the same reason, I had a leaking rear hub bearing, a leaking kickstart seal and the gearchange seal replaced all seals and bearings.

This is the article that I was looking for.
Many thanks.
Now for a rummage in my shed where push bikes and related parts abound .

Many thanks for input guys.
A week of mornings only at work ended up being full days.
Hence late reply.
Chain case cover oil breather was very restrictive to blow or suck through ( not recommended to suck mind) so it got a good soaking in my diesel and old fuel mix wash bath. Seems to have made it easier to blow through.
Also got carried away cleaning and taking apart, before too long head and cylinder were off.
Well if I have to go shopping I might as well make it a worthwhile trip.
Where's my piggy bank?
