I've posted before on my current issue but the thread title was misleading so I have started a new thread

So my Li125 had just had a new spark plug and HT lead and cap fitted. All was running fine but I left it sitting for two weeks and then it wouldn't start.

The first time I tried it started first kick but immediately cut out and wouldn't start again.

I checked spark and HT lead and all seemed Ok. Fuel Tap is flowing fine on reserve and normal positions. I replaced fuel line (managed to split it whilst taking it off!) for a clear one and drained all petrol out in case there was a problem with it. Drained fuel looked pretty clear, no crud or anything.

I just topped it up with fresh petrol and 3% putoline 2 stroke. It had sat for a couple of weeks again (just too busy to tinker) and, again, it started first kick and ran for about 5 seconds before slowly stopping (in spite of holding throttle open) and now there is absolutely no sign of it getting near starting again.

So I was hoping someone might have some ideas as to why after sitting for a couple of weeks it starts but then cuts out? And then it doesn't get close to starting unless its been left for a good while. I'm pretty new to this so would appreciate any thoughts. It seems like a fuel supply issue but don't want to make any assumptions! I'm guessing there is a supply issue in that some fuel is getting through but not enough to keep running?

I don't think it is flooding as I have flooded it before and the petrol has poured out the exhaust when I moved it and nothing is coming out this time.

should I be cleaning carb out? if so, what do i need to watch out for? I've got the spanners manual which is pretty good but any top tips would be appreciated!

What ignition system do you have? Have you checked that you have a Spark after it has stopped running? When you take the plug out is it wet or dry. Some more information please.

Hi yes. Definitely got spark and plug is wet.

its not Badly flooded is it after trying to start it ?

have you got the ignition switch / kill switch wired in if so disconnect in case it has an earth fault

does it Fire at all when trying to start ?

I had a bike that would start from cold and then die like yours. There was always a spark but not a strong one. The plug was wet. It turned out to be a faulty coil, points ignition, under compression the spark would fail. New coil and it ran like a champ.

it's flooded.

Just had similar issues on my new engine, good spark ( I thought ) Changed the CDI Unit for a new spare one, started first time : )

I don't think it is flooded as I have flooded it before and quite a bit of petrol came out exhaust and I'm seeing nothing this time. That said I'll give it a go with choke off to see if it makes any difference.

On the kill switch cable I havent tried that. Another thing to check off. Thanks. If I leave it sitting for a couple of weeks it will start but then slowly cut out after a few seconds. It doesn't even sound close to starting again after that until it has sat for a while.



I do have a replacement CDI I can try but someone else suggested it was unlikely to be that. That said. Open to trying anything!
