Exhaust options

Hi all,
I am looking at what exhaust options are open to me. I have a standard series 3 Li 150 and want to put a chrome/stainless finished exhaust on. I am about to have the chain case polished to a mirror finish and wanted the exhaust not to look so dull. The scooter shop i enquired in ( Allstyles ) suggested i might go for something like a clubman big bore and have it plated as i was looking to keep the standard look.Does anyone else have any suggestions on other ways could go?

Thanks in advance,

matt

Don't listen to them. If you've got a standard LI150 the last thing you want to do is stick a Clubman on. That would kill it stone dead. You are pretty much limited to a standard exhaust. But of course you can plate it, or not, as you see fit.

Thanks for your reply, I didn’t realise fitting a big bore would have an adverse effect. I will look into the plating to see if it is a viable option, if I do go that route I would use a new exhaust so any recommendations on make or supplier?

There is nothing wrong with the Clubman as such. But your 150 won't produce enough power to make it go. It will work, but it would be gutless. Try the Scootopia or Casa exhaust. They both do nice standard exhausts.

yes agree
I was given a big bore by a 'reputable supplier' and told it was just a replacement for the standard.
never ran right and binned that exhaust replaced it with a casa standard.
p.s li 150 standard

If you’re going to the effort of plating and/or polishing the exhaust, I’d highly recommend you purchase a Tutto Lambretta exhaust over the Casa one, as the difference in quality is significant, while the price difference is marginal. I speak from experience.

The Tutto Lambretta exhausts are also a better fit than the Scootopia ones. Can’t find a local supplier? STF are Tutto/Stratos retailer and you can also buy direct for ~€120. I’ve had good experience buying from both.

Looking for a little extra performance, drill out the mushroom baffle as per the ‘60s Tuning Manual or remove it completely.

It's always worth remembering though. If you buy yourself an exhaust with the intention of chroming it then you are probably looking at double the price just like that.

There are some clubbies for sale on eBay already chromed, not sure of the quality though....

Thanks for all the replies, I fully understand that it probably will cost loads more than say a Stirling or something like that that is already chrome/ stainless but that needs further modifications to my standard set up. For me I like the look of a standard scooter but want to just put a little of my own spin on it to make it mine.

I have seen the already plated clubmans on eBay but I have to say rightly or wrongly I am concerned about the Indian quality!! My heart says try one it’s the look you want but after the above comments on a clubman with a standard set up my head, for once, says put the £125 or so into buying a new scootopia/ Casa and look at the plating option. I am hoping to visit the plating company in the next couple of weeks so will update when I know if it can be done.

Thanks again.

Don't fit it and run it if your thinking of plating it some places won't touch them if they're 'used'

No,the idea was a new exhaust for that reason, I’ve already had one company say they can’t do it, got some more to try but it might be a wasted exercise.

You could always try chrome powdercoat.

Hadn’t thought of that, I’ll see if I can find a picture of the finish on the net, cheers

You could have an exhaust ceramic coated - cost about £140

Doesn’t last really but obviously dependant on how many miles you do. I got about 5/6k out of the coating before it started to look tired. If you are that bothered just spray regularly

I’ve just found this from a company in Hull that do their own plating, http://shop.qualitychrome.co.uk/clubman-exhaust,
Only problem being it’s a clubman and some say they don’t work with a standard set up which I have. I have mailed them to get a quote on plating a standard scootopia one, so I’ll see how the prices compare.

I had a BGM clubman Cermakromed by Camcoat a few years ago, not as shiny as Chrome but a nice finish and is lasting really well. I think I paid somewhere between £100-150 for it but when I contacting them just over a year ago to ceramic coat an expansion pipe they were looking for around £200 just for black, ended up getting it done elsewhere for £90

I have just been emailed back by qualitychrome of Hull ( the people that sell the clubman ) and they are the only people that are willing to chrome plate it, I have a new scootopia and a few other bits being packed up to be sent to them, not a cheap job but at least I can use the original parts although they will be coated.

I've not had any parts chromed by them but I have bought some of their chrome rims and they do live up to their name so not a bad choice, won't be cheap but you get what you pay for

I was not scared off by their price, I know there is plenty out there that will say it’s a waste but it’s the look I’m after, they are also chroming my original stand, splash plate and polishing my crankcase, yes I know you can buy a stainless stand but I have had two now and they are both too long despite being assured that they were the same as the original. At least I get to keep the original bits all be it blinged up a bit.
