Readspeed Hermes CDI with Varitronic?

Hi All,

I’ve been reading up about the Hermes CDI for Varitronic, Casatronic, etc...

I have a Varitronic with a GT186 and read that these have different maps with one so you can effectively set a non retarding timing at, say, 19 degrees btdc which is the timing setting recommended for a GT186 if I’m not mistaken.

I’ve been having a few issues messing about trying to get it to rev, currently I have it set at 24 degrees so it retards back to around 16, it’s ok but still only revs to just less than 7000. Other than this, I’ve been happy with the Varitronic and then found this gadget.

Has anyone tried it and can recommend or otherwise?

Best bet would be to give a Jerome a ring at Reedspeed. I'm sure he'll talk you through any concerns you have with the cdi's compatibility with the vartronic.

Probably best, I’ll do that. Doesn’t seem to be much info out there on them.
