Rear hub keeps coming loose

Asking for a friend! Rear hub keeps coming loose, regardless of how tight nut is tightened. Using a lock washer with three lock pins! Nut has been replaced and is not worn. Engine/gearbox was rebuilt about two years ago and is only used a couple of times a week. Is this a gearbox strip-down job? Totally stumped!

Possibly the wrong cone for the hub.

Check the thread on the layshaft. And the layshaft isn't breaking.

There were some layshafts around a couple of years ago that didn’t have the thread cut far enough to tighten the hub onto the cone properly. What make is yours?

Is it an aftermarket stainless nut if so the dome could be too shallow and have no nyloc in it so its tightening against the leyshaft and not the hub meaning no matter how tight it is it will never pull the hub onto the cone enough and will come undone once ridden

When you tighten it, grab it and really try to rock it to check for play. Place an additional washer under the hub nut and retighten and see if this removes any perceptible movement. Now you have to ascertain if it's the threaded layshaft or the hub nut.
DO NOT RIDE IT WITH ADDITIONAL WASHERS.

Previous to this Post, I've mentioned the problem of hub nuts maintaining the correct torque on this Forum.

I can't recall anybody agreeing, but my belief is that certain remade cones are simply not hard enough, & consequently the spline of the lay shaft actually bites into the bore of the remade cones, which then means the whole assembly does not remain as tight as it should be.

Old OEM cones always have a fairly good finish to the bore, whereas the ones that I consider 'soft' will have a slightly splined bore after use.
