Front axle bearing spacer

When assembling a new front hub, should the inner bearing be knocked in to be touching the axle spacer tube or not? If not how far should the bearing be in?

The inner race is the same ID and OD as the spacer, so if they're hard up against each other they'll just run together.
If they're just not quite touching, they'll still run together as the axle will spin them both.
In short, it makes no difference. Just tap the bearing fully home until it's seated.

Great cheers. one of those details that there’s very little info on, and surprising theres no hard stop for the inner bearing on the casting

As long as it is understood that the spacer is essential to prevent 'loading' up too much of the bearings when the axle nuts are tightened, as said, the inner abutments of the back plate are there to control the position, centralising the assembly between the fork links.
The spacer allows (or should allow!) just the correct amount of 'pre-load' which is conducive to bearing life.
