Hi all, I have a new Indian 200 casing, which was a bit on the rough side. I’ve fitted va li brake cam and li shoes, the rear hub goes on but is tight, and when I tighten down the rear hub nut the hub locks up. Should I be fitting a gp cam and shoes? Or has it got anything to do with the brake pivots not being in the correct position, which I’ve heard is a thing with these remade casings. I’ve tried different li shoes and a different rear hub and filing off the high spots but with no joy.

The shoes may need dressing to suit if new ? is the Hub fit ok without the brake shoes fitted ?

I'm not 100% but I think Indian casings are only good for a GP cam and shoes.

As long as the cam matches the shoes they should be fine

Thanks for the replies. I found another set of old brake shoes in a front hub that was hiding in the corner of my shed. I fitted these and found the same problem when tightening down the hub nut. I swapped rear hubs and found that the other hub spins freely-ish only catching in one place. I have the feeling that the hub I’ve been trying to use may be wrapped.

I suggest that you gradually tighten the hub nut until you can feel the contact point. If you haven't got any "Engineers blue" then you could try coating the inside of the hub with a watered down emulsion paint which should easily wash off when you are done.

is it not the case that a mismatched cam would only become a problem 'after' operating the brake?
