Carb problems

Postby Stevepshipley » Sun Mar 22, 2020 2:10 pm

Hi guys,
Need some help please.
Just finished restoring a 61 TV175 series 2, kept it all original except for 12 volt electronic ignition. (Couldn’t get the 4 pole points system working right).
Anyway I’m using the original 21mm BS7 carb and it’s not running right. Will start fine (with choke) and tick over when warm but seems to starve of fuel when I run it. When I open the throttle it kind of bogs down aNd cuts out. Will run better and is rideable with choke on, but if I flip the choke of within 50 yards 1/4 - 1/2 throttle it’s like it’s running out of fuel. Choke back on and it picks up again.
What should I be checking? Air screw is out 1/4 turn at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Carb is cruded up, get an aerosol of carb cleaner and clean the whole lot. If it is still a problem there is an ongoing thread about this behaviour which could also be plug, CDI or Stator.

Cleaned carb thoroughly before I refitted it, and fitted new seals. Sure it’s carb and not electrical.
I’ll clean it again to be sure tho....

Try without filter/bellows......any better or worse ?

it does sound as though pilot jet is blocked though....strip and clean

Breather hole on fuel cap is a possibility as well

Look at thread " Stator or not ". May seem familiar.

Hi y’all,
Thanks for your input, took it off stripped and cleaned thoroughly (again!). Must have been some crap somewhere. All good now.
Cheers Paul, scootopia would have been my next port of call if I didn’t sort it. I was keen to keep the original though.

Thanks again cheers Steve
