Jockeys rear brake

Dumb question. I presume the cam plate when screwed down should float. If not I've got an issue

no it shouldnt float , you will have to countersink the two brake post thread holes slightly. as the two screws that hold the cam plate down are countersunk head type, they can jam up before locking the plate tightly down.
this can easily be addressed by using a counter sink drill tool, or if you have not got one just get a large size drill bit say a 12mm one and slighty drill the top of the threaded holes where the brake shoe posts were fitted this will allow the new countersunk screws to go down far enough to lock the plate down tight it only needs to be countersunk by a couple of mm to solve the problem

Thanks for that. I don't know if the screws are bottoming out before they tighten but whichever is happening I know now the plate should be tight and can sort it. Thanks again

Found the problem as you said. The holes in the casing just need countersinking slightly. Thanks

Isn't the plate already countersunk? I'm sure mine was.

Yes it is countersunk but the screws are thicker as they come through the plate to the holes in the casing so they sort of bottom out on the top of the hole under the plate so as suggested the top of the hole on the casing needs a slight countersink. If that makes sense.
