Series 3 casing differences

Postby Storkfoot » Wed Apr 22, 2020 5:31 pm

I always assumed that all series 3 casings were by and large the same. I knew that, at some point, the drilling was made for the exhaust to be attached underneath but, beyond that, I just assumed they were the same.

These are two Italian GP casings, one GP125 and one GP150. There are numerous small differences in casting marks and where the studs are for the chaincase and endplate, amongst other differences.

Just thought I’d share this whilst I am trying to find scooter related jobs to do, rather than garden and house related ones :)

Is it me Paul or is one casing significantly shorter than the other ? Maybe just the angle of the photo ?

Sussed it. It’s me getting the orientation wrong on my iPhone. So, this was taken from the right hand side ie I was nearest the fork links.

I know. I need to get out more

I wish :?

Probably the combination of your next door's bird table, the washing line prop & your i-phone made me visualise the fork links as TV175 S1-2.

I wouldn't blame you if you were teasing us. It could be a new game! :P :

They just happened to be in the shot. TV2 I understand. Whether they are the same as TV1, I don’t know.

Interesting. Do the GP/dl 125 cases have the 125 Special prefix visibly stamped over? Just a wild guess, but as Innocenti used up earlier production cases for the GP/dl 125, it could explain the differences.

The GP125 engine number is a very clear 125LIS stamping inside the first 400 of the production run, whereas the GP150 is inside the first 4000 SX150 stampings. It is the GP125 casing that has the casing strengthening aspects.

Make of that what you will :D
