i'm still using the old B39. I'd happily upgrade to this but does it matter that my trickle charger states "FOR LEAD/ACID BATTERIES ONLY"?

I am using a Shorai LFX09 which I bought in 2014 on the sidecar scooter. It has been no problems at all the only issue I had was when I ran it right down, left the lights on, and my regular charger would not recharge it. I took it back to the dealer and he recharged it with the special shorai charger and has been fine since. They are light and can be used at any angle.

I top up my shorai battery with a standard battery charger without problems.

Do you have an electric start fitted to your Lambretta? If so, I say go for it, as the high discharge is great for an electric starter (except for in subzero temps). Just make sure your rectifier/regulator suited for lithium-ion and is charging between 13.4v and 14.6v or it could be an expensive experiment. Also make sure you look up the actual amp hour ratings not the advertised 'equivalent'.

If you're looking for a 12v replacement battery for a late S2/Series 3/GP that will fit in the original tray using the original straps to hold them in place, with minimal padding, I put together this list for the LCUSA. Understandably it's a little US-centric and 2 years old now, but it may be of use.

Conventional:

    12N5-3B
    YB5L-B
    CB5L-B

AGM:

    Adventure Power UT5AL-BS
Motobatt MB5U (if you can stomach the hideous color!)
    BikeMaster Platinum II MS-12-5-3B

Gel:
    BikeMaster TruGel MG5-3B

Lithium:

    WPS 490-2503
    BikeMaster DLFP5L-B

Tractor man, do these take a trickle charge or the dedicated charge only?
Cheers Shane.

I use a standard charger but there is a note on the battery about max charge rate of 9amps. If in doubt contact Carrot cycles in Lincoln he is a main dealer for these batteries and sells them cheaper than most places. carrotcycles.co.uk 01522 595975
