Got a new endplate bearing and it’s ‘sealed’ both sides. Do I fit as is, or take off the seals. Cheers steve

6004-end-plate as do most bearings also come in rs/zz sealed/shield type, just remove the seals

Whoooa. Stop. This sounds like the new bearing from AF Rayspeed. Both seals are retained in this type of bearing.

I will post a photo soon, but just hold on until I can get the photo posted. You might be ruining a £45 bearing

Am I barking up the wrong tree here again? So are you talking about the bearing on top of the Xmas tree (below the clutch)? In which case, I withdraw my previous advise.

Actually, I have already written this bit below, so I am going to post it anyway. It might help someone (maybe)

Has the replacement rear hub bearing got a sort-of circling around the outside of the bearing, rather than a shoulder? If so, then it is the double roller bearing as introduced by AFR a year or so ago. It requires a special recessed retaining plate; you can’t simply re-use the original retaining plate.

The original bearing is 18mm wide, and the AFR double roller is 20.5mm. The standard retaining 0late is 4mm thick, and the replacement AFR retaining plate is 4mm thick.

I have the AFR bearing fitted and it is the most rear hub stable bearing I have ever used.

Thanks all, and for your warning Knowledge, but it the bearing that sits in the end plate. I’ll strip out the shields.

Cheers chaps
