Forks Slight Play

Postby NorthernJordan » Tue Jun 23, 2020 9:11 am

After some advice before I strip down my headset and go through all the pain of disconnecting all the cables.

I've just rebuilt the front end on my jet 200. So entirely new bearings, springs, buffers and dampers etc. I'm also using an LTH antidive disc and therefore front end is solid as a rock when testing the front brake.

I tried the brake by rocking back and forward and detected a very slight a mount of play in the forks when pushing with all my strength.

I can't detect any play by hand and felt the forks were a little stiff when tightentened any further. I'm going to give it a run round the block later to see if there is any skipping on juddering.

Am I over thinking this and there is always a little play due to the design (which can only be felt using a rock hard break) or will they need nipping up further?

Did you rebuild the Forks in Situ or take out / maybe worth checking the bearings if not , there shouldn't be any play really

There should be no play at all, its an MOT failure, also would fail scrutineering at race meetings, sometimes its worth while applying the brake and testing as you have then re doing them,

I have re-tightened them and all good.
Play was slight but e ought to shudder a little on braking hard when giving it a run round the block.

Cheers
