Hi,Just toying with the idea of fitting a Spanish turning front mudguard to my series 1, question is can it be fitted without the need to weld brackets to the fork legs? (I'm thinking of fabricating some kind of bracket for it to bolt to at the sides)the reasons being one, I can't weld & two, I would have to travel somewhere to get it all welded up which at the moment is obviously is a no no! also will it fit onto the top of series 1 italian forks? I have done some searches on this but can't really find much information. thanks in advance. cheers ;)

The mudguard is not just held by the fork leg brackets.
The mudguard slips over a ring on the forks and is then clamped.
When I did it I turned the ring in steel and tapped the sides so I could use a grub screws instead of a clamp as I was using a fibreglass mudguard. Was consuerned a clamp would crack it as the mould wasn't great at that point.
The ring in the forks gives it some substance
I welded the brackets on the fork legs.
I'm sure there will a way to fab some sort of bolt on bracket, could you try something with the clamp on damper brackets with some butchery.

When I set about it, I didn't know about the ring, I was expecting to just weld the fork leg brackets on.
Good luck

If you got damper brackets on the forks already you could use them with longer bolts to save welding new brackets on. Won’t line up with the original holes in the mudguard but that doesn’t really matter. The ring around the top of forks is important. Also if there is a dust cover fitted above the bottom steering bearing race on your frame you’ll have to remove otherwise the ring will not fit

Good point about the dustcover I'd forgot about that

Just saw that Buzz Solomoto sells the fork bracket and a ring and clamp kit.... Wish they'd been around when I did mine.

Hi Gaz, yes, i got hold of a remade mudguard in fairly good condition,I wasn't too fussed about it being perfect as it's been to a Series 1 rat scoot, got a couple of the fork leg mudguard brackets from KS customs, apart from a bit of adjustment to stop it fouling the bottom of the horncast it was a fairly straightforward job ;) thanks again for all your help & advice, much appreciated . Cheers ;)

Good to hear, do you know you can buy bolt on horncover cheeks, to fill the gap below. If you check my thread they are on there somewhere, I think they from Keith Newman
