Rear Sprint Rack

Hi all - I’m thinking of putting a sprint rack on my LiS but have seen so many variants I don’t want to regret buying and fitting the “wrong un”.
I’ve seen ones with 4 screw fitting and some with two parallel bars that screw onto the frame these I feel will ‘do more damage’on my newly painted frame? Also some have an upright on the back and some on the front of the carriers, also some have side up-stands. I don’t have an Ancilotti type seat so don’t need a cutaway style.
Anyone have any experiences/issues with any particular type?

I fully understand & agree with your concern.

I think I have a couple of old sprint racks in the garage rafters & the oldest was manufactured using four threaded pillars that align with the frame holes. To my mind, that is the best type as any effect of mounting it is minimal as far as the frame/paintwork is concerned.

Whether that method of manufacture still exists today, I don't know. But it did, 'back in the day'......when you could leave your front door unlocked & Fred Perry's had four buttons......

You need to ask yourself what do you need the rack for, is it form or function, do you do rallies and need to carry a lot of gear, do you want/need to carry a spare wheel on the back or not, do you ride with a pillion and they want a backrest, etc.

I used the large type sprint rack with the parallel bars. Just fitted rubber washers under the fixing holes on the bars which left no damage after removing it.

I prefer to use nylon washers in these circumstances as the do not deform like rubber washers.

Must admit I've taken all my sprint racks off now. I never used the bloody things. So it was definitely form over function in my case. But when I did I just used tap washers underneath.

It's worth investing a fiver in a 300mm x 300mm x 4mm thick sheet of rubber for many useful Lambretta applications. Couple of strips for the sprint rack with the 2 parallel bars. I made 4 plates to sit under the 2 seat catches (for 2 seats), and some smaller pieces for the CDI & regulator holder (to stop vibration).

Yes, one well know dealer sells them to fit under CDI & regulators to soften vibration and prolong the life.

Thanks for your input got myself a standard sprint jobby. As soon as my scoot LiS MB RT is painted I’ll get a few pics... y’know before, during and never finished!
