cable fitting

Hi Guys, I have routed my cables on my S3 and just need connecting up. I have always been a bit nervous about this, any advice, please. I did try connecting the front brake and messed that up had to buy a replacement inner.

I suspect people might shy away from giving you a decent reply to this because the question is quite broad and to answer it in full would take most of an evening. (Perhaps there is an Oily Rag article in this for me). Frankly most of the regular repliers to such questions have changed so many cables that they have forgotten that there is a knack to fitting them.
May I direct you to pages 48-50 of Sticky’s Spanner’s Guide, where the basics are explained but may I also ask what went wrong when you tried to fit the front brake cable?
This might be a simpler question to answer than your rather generic one.

I use a cycle inner cable tensioner for fine tuning the front brake cable. After slackening the clamp it pulls the cable through ok.

Unfortunately practice makes perfect, don't worry if you get things wrong it's the way we learn just don't be afraid to try. I would recommend carrying an oiled spare of each cable in a plastic bag on your scooter and always have extra spares at home. I once stopped (in my car) to help a stranded scooter rider, they had no tools or basic spares! Their reasoning was they weren't mechanically minded and wouldn't know what to do with them but as I told them someone could come along that does.

Several years ago I had a throttle cable go on me at night down an unlit country lane and no cables on me, since then I always have a full set permanently with each scooter. I have lost count how many I have donated to others though, amazing how many don't carry anything, not even a basic tool kit.
