Speedo part clarification.

Postby Nkbug » Sat Feb 20, 2021 5:00 pm

I have a ‘61 s2 li150. The Speedo wasn’t working. So I took the cable out from the wheel end and ran it on a drill and the Speedo worked. This confirmed my Speedo is fine.
By the wheel I removed the brass housing and spun the wheel, the worm was turning freely. What doesn’t seem to match is the ‘square’ cable end into the worm just spins.

In sticky’s book, the worm fitted looks like a late s2 (p219). P253 shows there are two cables, a 2mm and 2.5mm.

Do I have wrong parts fitted to my scoot? Or has the inside of my worm been rounded off due to wear and tear?

Thanks In advance.

Cable into wheel 2.5 mm on all scooters , do you have the cable upside down as the square at the speedo ends are different ,

I don’t believe the cable is upside down as the end which goes in the Speedo on the headset is perfect fit. I also believe the end by the wheel is fixed with a washer so the cable can only go so far into the brass fitting.

The brass part on the cable should be at the top end

Ah ok, so I think the cable was the wrong way around. So the fixed brass bit is now at the headset side. Now this doesn’t fit into the Speedo. The bottom end still spins in the worm.

Lol, and I thought this would be something simple.

I might just take my headset/cable/worm to a shop and see what needs changing for it to all connect.
