Fuel Tank drip tray

Postby Specialcase » Thu Mar 25, 2021 8:09 am

I’ve just bought a Scootopia drip tray and have a few issues with the fitting, it is a hard plastic that has no give in it, should it be rubber as no way will it fit into the designated area, I be heated it but really don’t want to trim it as it might break up. Any suggestions? Also the tank straps really don’t want to follow the contours of the tank should I keep tightening until they do?
Cheers all.

Boiling water (carefully) on your drip/splash tray & mold it to shape as it cools & tank straps, just bend them round your tank to get the initial shape prior to fitting. always works for me ;)

Al beat me to it.... Never used a Scootopia drip tray, my favourite is the Uni one AF sell but they are only in black, they are quite rigid.
I stick them in hot water and they always go in okay.
If you bottom tank buffers are to too deep that will reduce the space from top of tank to underside frame and some felt rings are thicker than others, I've had to reduce these on the past.

I always shape tank straps by hand outside the frame before fitting tank to get them to the contours.

Thanks guys it’s just that the drip tray won’t even fit into the hole even with heating and I really don’t fancy shaving off a load of new paint to make it fits there a softer (rubber) version? Also might use the GP rubbers as they are far more user friendly.
Cheers

To fit it in you have to as said put it in boiling water then when soft squash two corners together and push it through the hole it is a tight fit but it will go. It's easier to put the fibre ring on the drip tray before you put it in than to put the fibre ring on the tank and try to fit the the drip try
