BGM Mesh Air Filter

Postby ToBoldlyGo » Sat Apr 03, 2021 9:05 pm

These do what they say, allow a better airflow. But, after discovering grit in the bottom of my air hose I'm wondering how effective that will be in the long run? I think they say that they are okay for general use as is. But this has got me wondering how much is getting through. Has anyone had a similar experience? Because I'm seriously considering going back to a paper filter.

How big pieces of grit? It seems unusual for anything significant to get from the air scoop under the seat through the air box (with or without a filter) and get into the air hose! Has the air box been blasted before painting or if chrome or stainless polished? I know a couple of lads that use them without an issue

No, you're right. I wasn't thinking it through properly and it may have been a false alarm. It seems the hose might not have been on correctly and had come adrift. So, it's quite possible that it had drawn in some road dust. As you were.... :lol:

Any filter that is marketed as being suitable for any purpose should have some kind of evidence rather than claims.

In the absence of the micron rating based on x%* single-pass efficiency (which might be a bit much to expect in Lambretta World :lol: ) then the screen size of any filter is the next best thing.

I have had to resort to DIY manufacture of my own filters & I use foam. I buy the stuff in sheets but they are relatively cheap......but @ least I know the screen size!

I may have missed the facts if they are stated about BGM's filter but, if I were you, I'd ask them.

IMHO the product looks too course & despite the claims, I would not use one without some proof of something measurable so that an informed choice can be made.

* x% might typically be 98%
