Mag Housing to Crank Gap

Postby Bilko » Fri Apr 09, 2021 7:01 pm

I’ve got a gap of 0.30mm. Is this enough or do I have to buy a fatter gasket? I’ve only got 1.0mm gaskets.

I don't know if there is a workshop figure, but 0.5 mm seems a sensible absolute minimum to me.

I any case, long gone are the days when I pursued HPC. The more volume the better IMHO..... ;) Plus the drag of rotating webs in close proximity (windage) is reduced.

(I had a batch of alloy mag flange gaskets made a while back. Brilliant as they are re-useable. Is the World of Lambretta ready for such Demonic ideas  )

So 0.3mm is a bit tight.

Oddly enough, as I was going through my pile of alloy base and head gaskets, I looked at my 3 mag gaskets wondering why we can’t have alloy ones. I thought there was a reason that I wasn’t aware of.
