S3 SEAT

Postby Lord-Spanner » Mon Aug 29, 2022 3:23 pm

Hiya folks,

I have a coke bottle or coffin seat as it might be made by Radaelli that's pretty messed up, the covers shot, springs need replacing and frame rusty in various places, now the question for folks who have possible done this, is it worth the agro and cost to repair it or are you better off buying a new one? As a new one is around the 100 note mark.

Thanks

Personally, I'd never buy a reproduction seat again. My experience is that they are tacky.

It's a bit of work, but not too hard to get it blasted, replace the springs and spray it black.

There are good quality covers available from Casa and BGM, or better still have it recovered by the likes of Andy Nixon.

Overall it'll probably cost you double but well worth it in my opinion as a cheap seat ruins the look of an otherwise lovely scooter.

Fair comments dickie, not sure if you would ever get the new seat cover to fit correctly either, is Andy Nixon on here?

I've sent you a message with his phone number. Nice bloke, nice work.

I see what you mean about seat covers; I doubt very much they'd fit a radaelli frame.

IMHO it's worth restoring an original or period correct accessory seat.

Based on my own experience doing several it's cheap to have a frame blasted and powder coated. Last one I had done cost me $40 and that's at exorbitant New York City prices!

RLC sell springs (flat|round) and hooks (long|short) for most sprung seat types. Tutto, Casa and BGM make great quality covers, all which I believe are sourced from Trezzi, and Andy Nixon will fill any gaps. AFAIK he is the only other person apart from Trezzi that makes stitched rubber base seat covers. Not cheap, but a cheap seat (or seat cover) completely ruins a scooter.
