On my last paint job I fixed the rear panel badges with star lockclips which isn't so bad as you don't see them when the panels are on the scoot and they hold the badges firmly in place, onto the legshield ones, I 'm after something similar but capped to make the inside neater, but I think you can only get 3mm capped ones and I think they need 2mm if my memory serves me correctly and looking back at my eBay purchases, but just wondering how everyone else has fixed their badges on the legshield

Theres a proper tool to do it.

It flattenes the pin on the rear.

Think ive seen one on ebay of late

Like the big horse shoe things? I have heard on here that they are not the best tool in the box to do the job

I follow Sticky’s page 202. Cam Lam do a cheap tool to open up the end to be preened over which I have. However, I find a centre punch followed by a small ball peined hammer to be better.

It is definitely a two person job and half the battle is getting the tags lined up with the panel holes.

Hmmmm I'm not toooooooo keen on that idea, I'd be sh*t scared of cracking the badge or damaging my nice shiny paint work

I’ve never used it! I used a centre punch then peened it over - they are made too long so cut them down before using. Whilst it did the job it’s still a bit jagged where I peened it over and I’m too nervous about smoothing it out with a Dremel
I read somewhere that the tool that LincsLambretta have is a copy of the original Innocenti tool.

I cut down the pins first with my Dremmel.
Apply a clear double sided thin tape to the back of the badge. (Pain in the arse job with a craft knife)
Then, I get an assistant to hold a wrapped 7 pound hammer head against the badge face. The pin then peens over nicely using a punch ( with a degree of confidence ) and doesn't rattle loose over time.
If the pins are too long, then they will likely just bend over when you try to peen them.

did it work the first time you tried it

Yes,
and has worked every time since.
You really do need that big weight behind it and pins shortened to the right length.

Still not convinced but will use that as a last resort if I can't find any nice clippy things
