Cluster rubbing

Postby lou » Sun May 12, 2024 8:34 pm

Hi some advice needed, fitting a pacemaker gearbox I’ve had a while, when I drop gear cluster in with shim underneath it rubs on the casing ( doesn’t sound nice) My question is ..can I double up on the shim which when fitted it does stop the rubbing , or is this a no no .

Any advice be great

I won't answer the question directly as I would suggest you try the following to prove the point....

With just the one shim - or none at all - fit the end plate temporarily with no loose gears & just a few of the M7 fixing nuts. Now fit the clutch sprocket, bearings & clutch centre just to enable the cluster to be nipped up.

The result should be the total elimination of the rubbing as the cluster is pulled away from the crankcase.

Let us know how you get on please :D

Yes. this situation is normal.
Follow WT1's advice and you'll see that the lateral preload is on the endplate roller bearing not the casing's needle bearing.

Hi

Thanks for advice, I have ran it up the Road few times wasn’t happy when fitted the gearbox so stripped it out again

Yes it does raise the cluster into when spin it with no gears in can’t hear any rubbing .

But this is what I found when stripped it out making nasty grove in casing , I would like to use the pacemaker wondering problem with it

I do have sil gp200 box not the final drive after .
