I have made an earth lead for the speedo light by slightly opening up a 10mm open ring terminal placing it over the speedo drive attachment and securing the other end to the throttle control rod cover. It works well, but i would like to nip up the ring so that it is secure against the speedo housing. I have put a cable tie around the attachment but it feels a bit amateur. What is the size of the attachment? M11 x 0.75? Ideally I would like to trap the ring terminal between two half nuts.
Or would I be better just using an old speedo cable outer nut to secure the ring terminal.

I presume you're keeping the speedo operating by the normal cable, in which case, I'd not want to use nuts as they'd stop the cable from being properly tightened into the speedo.

Would you need two half nuts? Surely if the ring terminal is secured tight by one half nut as far as it can go toward the Speedo main body, then a good contact will be achieved.

As dickie intimated, you may need to consider any loss of thread depth as the result of using a half nut......

Hi, thanks for your comments - Ive measured the threaded section and the speedo connecting nut and have approx. 7mm of grip length available.
This would be enough for at least 1 half nut to secure the ring terminal.
Does anyone know the size of nut i would need?

Seems a lot more involved than the more common stripped end earth wire being slotted into the bulb holder before the bulb is pushed in, with the other end taken to one of the control rod securing plate bolts.
