I have a badly corroded series 3 frame that needs taking back to clean material but I'm looking for the most gentle process possible. What would be the best option?

Nowadays, we must acknowledge that the inside of the frame tube will also likely be affected by corrosion. Chemical dipping is the process I would seriously consider. There are several stages to the complete process as there are chemical dips specifically for the paint & others for the rust. But any decent company will have facilities to do the lot. However, you can view the treatment of whole cars or bike frames on YouTube to see what’s involved.
The alternative would be the initial DIY paint stripping - if you can acquire a strong enough acid, but I believe the days of Nitromors being up to the job have long gone. If you can get the paint off, then dry ice blasting seems to be the latest thing. As above, there are videos on YouTube.
