I've just been re-building my engine and a thought has occurred to me if you follow the usual advice 0.7 ltr dry 0.5 ltr wet are some of us putting to much oil in? Now bear with me and obviously if you use the level plug as you should it doesn't apply. when a engine has modern components in it (slipper lower chain guard, 5 speed box, bigger clutch etc) there is less room for the oil. Like the crow dropping pebbles in the bucket to raise the level. Thus unintentionally causing symptoms that are associated with to much oil? As I say just a thought but I'll be using the level plug from now on.

I'm a bit philosophical about this. As long as the bottom of the gears are in oil, they'll distribute it around the gears, chain and clutch once you're running.
We use big gearboxes at work and fill them to the very top if they're vertical, but with an expansion tank. And about half way if horizontal.
You'd be amazed how much power is lost if they're full versus half full. We need to install pump driven oil coolers.

It’s only a splash that gets thrown around, no galleries or rails to talk of
