Framebreather design?

Was there a fundamental flaw with the S1 framebreather air intake design? Obviously it was changed over to the usual air intake we know and love later but was that a cost saving exercise or a way to fix some underlying issues?

Cheers,
Rog

A cost saving matter. Almost every modification Innocenti made to their Lambretta were to reduce production costs so look no further.

I'm not sure I agree with that Martin. I'm sure cost saving was always in their minds but improvements were made with every model i'm sure of that. Right from the Model A through to the GP/DL. Every new model was an improvement on the last from drum brakes to disc brakes, from LI150 gearbox to GP200 box, 18mm carbs to 22mm carbs, the list goes on. I can't see any of those as cost cutting. Just my thoughts.

The story I heard was that the air intake got covered by long coats, luggage etc and the engine couldn't breathe.
Something similar happened when a mate stuffed a rag into the toolbox of his Jet 200. Covered the air intake so it wouldn't run, cleared as soon as it was removed
