What are the compatibility rules for all the hoses, banjos and bolts used to make up a hydraulic hose?

I seem to be buying components and then discovering that they don't fit together. I feel a bit stupid, but not so stupid that I can't ask for advice.

Well assuming itsall the same make ?

the outer plastic is trimmed off, then the nut goes on , then the braid is then "teased " off the nylon/plastic inner with a thin screwdriver or similar.
The "olive" then fits over the nylon inner and under the braiding .
then fit the banjo (or fitting) inside the nylon inner and bolt up
Clear as mud ?
If you put a couple of inches of heat shrink on first , then when its all fitted and leak tested , slide the heat shrink over the nut and shrink it on, it tidies it up, and covers where the outer has been trimmed

Perfectly clear description. In fact, looking at the line and banjo in the cold light of the morning, I realised that I needed to remove the outer plastic, tease the braid off the inner and fit the olive between the braid and the inner plastic.

OK, I need to buy another straight banjo, and then I can get to work. I may not have wasted to much money after all.
