yellow headlight

Mate of mines lights are absolutely p*ss poor, headlight almost yellow,back light very faint as is the brake light - speedo bulbs OK though
Runs a 12v 25/25w for the headlight, led rear & a "normal" speedo bulb , ducatti CDI & regulator & a BGM stator (possibly MK1). Any pointers where to start? He doesn't want to go down the DC route

Remagnetise the flywheel?
How old is the loom?
Check all connections and earths for resistance with a multi meter.

Check for 12v with a meter. Check at regulator and lights If below 12v then as suggested look for suspect components (regulator/stator/flywheel) and poor connections.

a 25/25 is very low. 35/35 is standard but with a BGM setup you should be able to go closer to 50
Voltmeter is always the 1st starting point. Whats going in to the regulator then whats coming out.

I agree with the comments from Monty about starting with the voltmeter.
Whilst your mate might not want to go the DC route, he might think again if he sees the voltage reading of the AC system. It might be delivering as little as 10v to power the 25w headlight. That's 2.5A.
With a DC system, the running voltage is usally around 14 volts, meaning the measly 1.8A. The light will be brighter for the sake of the extra volts and drain on the Amperage will be less.
A DC Wassell system does not require a battery (but a small burglar alarm sealed-battery can be hidden away on the scooter to great advantage)

See if you can borrow a regulator to try,but the multimeter should prove the output if its duff

Thank you chaps appreciate the advice, I'll get round there at the weekend with a multi meter & spare regulator. I'd hope the flywheel is OK as its less than 8 months old genuine SIL, but I'll take my known good spare around as well, & check all the connections.If a lighting coil is breaking down is it just that? what I mean is it a case of it either works or it doesn't as oppose to say LT coil which can break down under load? Its about 2ohms I believe I should be looking for off this?
