Re fitting front panels ?

Postby St George » Tue Jan 20, 2015 4:18 pm

My horncasting and front mudguard is on its way back from the paint shop. Is it wiser to fit the two parts and grill together loosely with the gaskets in obviously, then offer it all up to the bike. The paint will be fresh so I don't want any damage to my new paint. I have all new screws ready. I was going to blu-tack the rubber gaskets in place. Any good advice welcome. Thanks.

On my series 2 I fitted the mudguard to the horncast before fitting to the legshields,on my series 3 I fitted the mudguard to the legshields first, then the horncast.I did it this way because the series 2 horncast/mudguard rubber is one piece, but the series 3 rubbers are seperate.

Thanks Paul. May seem a silly question that I asked, but things sometimes are not quite what they seem and can cause damage.

I use a hot glue gun to hold the rubbers in place. Clip them on and put some dabs on the back to hold them in place. The stuff peels off without any damage once its cold. I would do the horne casting to the mudguard tight then get the big bolts in the badge loose and work down. Check you have enough clearance on the headset or it can rub when turning

I hope it's not too close to looking like mine as it was knicked by 4 scum bags. Last seen going through a speed camera doing 42 mph. More than likely in 1st gear. I always have close look at any red and white ones just in case. Enjoy it

http://www.ilambretta.co.uk/NSSR/ number 3 on here.
Never seen from the day it was nicked well not in one piece.
Lock it up Chain it up and get an agreed valuation. I had 1 and 3 but forgot the ground anchor that night.

You can also use a little lightly applied masking tape to hold the rubbers in place, then as you tighten the fasteners, just before they're tight, pull the tape out.
