I've been quoted a silly price for rechroming my original ring, thus looking at the above on eb--y for around £20 in stainless.
Anyone with experience of these, ie do they fit?

I bought one and regretted it.

It went on ok and looks good, but the hole for the steering lock doesn't line up.

Easy solution is to slot the hole so that the steering lock pin drops in nicely. However..............it is cast from the hardest metal on earth. Seriously, they should make barrel liners from this sh1t!

I've been gradually fettling this for about 3 weeks now and i'm still not done.

If you're going to buy a new chrome ring get one from SR or someone - I hate the bloody thing that I bought.

I know it's a lot of money, but I wish I'd bought one of these.

Silly money? - You should be abe to prep it yourself as that's what normally racks up the cost of plating.

I was quoted £210 + vat + 6 weeks for re-chroming 4 items, the ring, the kick-start, spare wheel carrier and brake pedal (in nickel).
If I paid more it would be 4 weeks.

Powder coating will be done in 2 weeks time and I really need the ring to put the fork in.

Cast stainless is like kryptonite...

Where I get my plating done it would cost about £40 including vat for that lot in nickel though. BUT, he only degreases them. If you don't give him silky smooth stuff it looks rough. Hence I get stuff like brake pedals done there, but nowt that needs to look great.

Graham, in my recent build experience, everything I tried to do at less expense/ off e-bay was poor quality and needed re-buying. Go to a reputable shop is my advice..

Yep buy cheap buy twice.

£210 !! Id guess that lot would be about £30-40 at Castle chrome, turnaround is usually about 4weeks.
A nickel platers in Brierley hill( I cant remember there name ) usually charges £20 for a small bucket of stuff.

Going to try Castle again today for just the ring. Might get one item slipped-in with something else..

will buy a new headlamp surround as mine is well pitted all over, powder paint the wheel rack and silver paint the rear brake pedal as you can hardly see any of it.
I am fast finding out about 'ebbayy' quality parts. The parts recently from Scooter Rest have been the best I've had.

New Italian ring is £50 + everything.

I need to get my forward planning sharper!

If your getting the legshields,horncast and headset done in the same colour,why not get the chrome ring painted as well.I have just finished a series 2 all in white and the chrome ring is the same colour,I think it looks ok.See for yourself in the - show your ride section of this forum

Castle Chrome to the rescue. Pleaded a bit on the phone, just got back from delivering the Ring, kick start, and headlamp surround to them.
Looks like £50 (minimum order) for the 3 and 2 weeks.

Happy with that, and I've kept 3 original parts of the TV.
They are rammed with work, so have squeezed me in.
