How can I test my TV's horn please?
I've put 12 V DC on the two terminals but no action/vibration etc.

Opened it all up and it all looks great inside ( )

The scooter is all apart so cannot test it.
Is there a bench test I can try ?

Trying to keep originality and save £31 + vat

First you must be sure that you have a DC horn
They are larger than the AC.

If it is a DC horn,
Positive of the battery to one terminal of the horn,
Negative of the battery to an earth point,
Use one spare wire,one end at the remaining horn terminal, the other end of the wire will control the horn,
every time you earth it,the horn should work.

If it doesn't work,try the opposite connections on the horn terminals.

No idea which horn I have except it is the original and the TV has no battery, so assuming it is AC(?)

Will give that a try tomorrow.

If the scooter has no battery tray then the horn will be AC so connecting it to a battery will only result in a single click when the wire is touched on. If you had access to a door bell or trainset transformer you could try that, the AC should make it buzz if it's a good'un

That only dawned on me at the end of taking it all apart and getting an Italian 50 year old spider from behind the discs.
The frame has a battery tray but has never been used. The original loom has no battery terminals etc.
I have a lot to learn. (obviously)

Don't have a train set, oddly never had one in my life, but do have an early 80's Scalextrix...

Well, looks like it is cream-crackered.
Not a murmur, rattle or a click..

Don't despair. It's often just a dry solder joint. Drill out the rivets, open it up, resolder the joints and fix it back together with pop rivets. Ok, a new horn may not be expensive but some are poor quality and costs can spiral when renovating so why not save a few bob and try to fix the original?

It is all stripped Paul, down to the coils. The solder tab in the centre is looking a bit frail and I'm not convinced the connection to the strip in the plastic body is good.
Can't get the plastic body off the 4 pins for the life of me but could try harder as I've nothing to loose...

The number of people that's converted to DC on here must mean there's loads of AC horns kicking about in sheds, stick an ad in wanted 'free to good home' ...

When you get it connected to the scooter with the engine running and press the button you will wonder why you bother....sounds like a fart in a jam jar

I have a very fast classic car with a feeble horn, nearly fails the MoT due to it every year.
A new one should at least give a decent tone?
And I thought a Lambretta would be easy.

I have a battery powered bicycle horn that velcros on to the handlebars to satisfy the MOT man. Unless you live in India who needs a horn anyway (apart from the law).
