Tyre fitting

Hello all. Any crafty tips on fitting a new tyre onto a new rim, or is it just a matter of brute force and perseverance ??

Lightly inflate inner tube. Insert tube into tyre. Wipe some tyre lube/gel around lip of tyre. Assemble rims on tyre and tighten nuts fully being careful not to pinch tube. Inflate tube which pushes tyre onto rim. Pretty easy as long as you have good rims. Buy a tyre breaker off eBay for about 30 quid which makes removal of tyres easy. Not much brute force needed.

A tip that I use is, after putting the two halves of the rim together and lightly inflating the tube, use a lollypop stick to push the tube in and away from the rims so that it is not nipped. Obviously you can only do this so far until the nuts start to tighten but it always works for me.

Washing up liquid instead of tyre lube ok?
About to do 3 rims next week.

I have never used any lubricant on the rims. Never needed to.

I wouldn't personally, the lube/gel evaporates whereby the washing up liquid won't....having said that if it's diluted sufficiently then will probably be ok. Or as Rich says, you can probably get away without using it at all...

I'd rather use soap or talc as washing up liquid contains salt, that's why it's not recommended to wash cars with it.

Sorry lads but looking at this again,surely you do have to force the rim with the hole for the inner tube onto the tyre first? Otherwise how do you get the valve to fit in the hole???
