what do people think is an acceptable amount of play between the bolt, the steel and the plastic bushes ?? (have just bought a new set (well known reputable dealer not ebay tat) and there seem quite a lot play , a bit more than i would of expected

I don't think I've ever had any play with new parts when fitting usually a very good fit ? I usually use scooter rezzys or MB ones

i bought from one of the aforementioned they really are like a"prick in a sleeve " was just wondering what was the norm ,

Have you fitted them in the links or have you just got them loose on the bench ?

just loose on the bench only arrived today , there`s side to side movement between the steal and plastic bush and between the bolt and steel bush , i suppose a bit of movement would help prevent them seizing ? Was replacing them because the ones i had fitted had worn out within 18 mnths and were making steering interesting to say the least

In my experience, the cheap white plastic Indian ones are to be avoided. The black MB ones are the best I have encountered.

I usually Find when you fit the plastic sleeve in the link and fit the metal bush it takes up some of the play

The hole in the link crushes the plastic sleeve which is then a good firm sliding fit around the sleeve.

Did mine about a month back, Scooter Rest parts, links are very well guided when assembled and everything tight.
Impossible to get grease in the sliding surfaces, but worth trying.

ok chaps that the sort of info i was after , ill fit them tomorrow and see what they are like

Reviving this thread I pressed in plastic inserts but had to use rubber mallet to get metal inserts in
I take it this is far too tight.

I’d suggest that a fairly gentle tap in would be fine. But smashing it as hard as you can would cause the links to bind slightly when the forks compress and spring back. As to whether you’d notice this on the road, I doubt it.
