I was helping a mate with a rebuild of his engine today he's fitting a BGM pipe Dellorto 28 PHBH and we were going to mildly re-port the barrel and we were also fitting a new mag housing crank and drive bearings.

All the new bits were had arrived but half way through the work we realised we didn't have the large circlip for the mag bearing, so I remembered that I had an old Li 150 engine, and I thought I would take quickly take it apart and get the maghousing off and use the circlip.

When I took the flywheel off the Li engine this is what I found.





Not exactly what I was expecting. Even the outer seal has been put in back to front. Up date was that it did at least have a usable circlip

Hell fire, that's some bodge that!

i brought an indian engine of the evil bay
when i opened it up it was an odd ball kelvinater engine

welded up around main bearing like that one and all around the end plate studs as well so ended up with lots of bits to put into another engine if they will fit
mag housing is like an li without the spacer
li 150 gear box as far as number of teeth goes
so it will be an interesting build if i ever get around to it

On the basis of its not pissing oil I would call that fixed. Not prety. Have we all gone soft in our old age. Remember we fixed these ruddy things with bed scanners and tube spanners that you hit with a hammer to make it fit. Tig welding what's that

I don't think its air tight, and both seals in the maghousing were in back to front.

I think Its looking much better now with the new maghousing on, the engine case itself still needs a good clean but the maghousing and all the shiny new bits inside that can't be seen do look much better.



The exhaust port had to be opened out a little and blended to match the stub.
I was surprised at how much of the cooling fins had to be removed to fit the stub for the exhaust, but I really should have expected that as it is quite a large diameter down pipe on the BGM exhaust.

It most probably cost more in time and money welding it than it would of cost to buy a new one

Thanks for the strip & build mate. I'll sort the parts out this week, that Mag Housing was a belter to see.

There are bodges/quick fixes some permanent some temporary same with cars. If that doesnt leak and works ok ,obviously not the correct way to do it but i'd call that fixed, a bodge would be P40 or JB weld and the like. Most likely done at some point in its life at a time when no used parts were available.

i call the seal in the wrong way round a bodge tbh
