Hi all,
Anybody ever had to fix or know of a good bodge for the Cuppini 2 in 1 rear wheel carrier where the spare wheel bracket bolt hole tightens please? Seems some cracking around where the thread is due I'm guessing to what looks like a weak point, metals really thin.
Any help would be great or is it a new replacement jobby?
Cheers all
Ash

Could I maybe metal glue a large washer over the existing thread hole to strengthen the plate? Sounds like an excellent bodge?

picture would help
We can then refer to our bodge books for a suitable solution !.
Whereabouts are you ? maybe someone local to you with a welder . I have both a MIG and an Inverter Stick welder

In Torquay sunny Devon bruv.
Metal around the fixed internal nut is pretty thin and has cracked party due I think due to transmitted vibration.it's a cuppini Series 3 2 in 1 rack if that helps (in the absence of pics)
Thanks for your help

you are right about the cause of the cracks ,metal fatigue due to vibration and constant movement caused by the weight of the wheel and flexing of the rack fixing.
No glue on earth is going to hold it together for long. It needs welding or better still brazing but it might also need some reinforcement but until we can see a picture of the fault its impossible to say.
I am not familiar with the rack you mention so its poinless me trawling all over the net trying to find an example and then try work out which bit is broken . You need to upload a picture or at least post a URL of an online image so we can assess whats needed.

Drill the thread out and fit a nylock nut and washer to the back where the tightening bolt comes through.

HXPaul, I can't bud as it's inside and covered by a shield shape metal plate Cuppini style

I have one on my series 2.The only thing I can suggest is drill through the shield and use a bolt slightly smaller in diameter but longer than the original bolt, with the new bolt through the hole fit a washer and nylock nut or dome nut.

Thanks Paul, not a great design is it, look good but that metals gotta only be mm thick with an internally brazed bolt I'd imagine....designed for a rubber ring morelike

Had the same. Large chrome washers over cracking. Also consider destressing the fitting by making fixing point holes larger so the rack sits down without having to be pulled into place.

Did you metal glue the washer over? Distressing the fitting? It's distressing me lol

Think I may just buckle strap the wheel to the rack uprights because when the wheels fitted it's lower and doesn't line up.to bolt it again means lifting up the wheel and bolting to the designed thread but then putting the full weight of the wheel and tyre on it, hence the cracking
