More speedo grief

Postby Revvers » Tue Apr 07, 2015 11:19 am

Hello. After finally getting the old girl all ship shape and running lovely, thanks to the help from this forum! I have a niggly speedo issue driving me mad! It's a Cam Lam series 3 new speedometer. The cable is moving at the headset and the speedo works. All ok apart from a dodgy connection for the bulb which I need to sort. Went out yesterday and alls well until I get quarter of a mile from home and speedo suddenly stops. I'm assuming that the cable cannot have come out either end and that the bulb issue won't be affecting it ( ??). Have I a duff speedometer??

most likely is it the bottom end - the ring/drive meshing correctly (or not as the case maybe)

i use the metal two pieces ones and spend time getting them meshed up perfectly - which depending on what other parts you have can mean washers etc and in some cases the location of the ring on the hub (disk brakes)

its worth spending time on the bottom end on the drive parts - but it is a pain in the backside

i maybe just the cable has come out at the bottom

good luck

I have had this twice with a SIP speedo and indian cable. Both times the cable has come unscrewed from the speedo, I put it down to loosely cut thread on the cable nut and have fixed it with a couple of winds with plumbers thread tape, thought Loctite may be to strong.

i have screwed mine up a couple of times before i realised my mistake
i was putting loads of grease on the driven parts but this just gets compacted into the teeth they dont mesh and then grind away he edges
