Thought I would post the 2 links below for any potential purchasers of the Electrex ignition kit.
Seems to be a fair saving on the Electrex price if everything is legit, stumbled across it whilst looking for wiring info on the kit.

still cheaper tho works out at £247 but then you have the shipping cost !!!

just wondering if anyone is running one of these as im interested in them and wondered how good they are ???? do they have the advance/ retard program in them like the variotronic ?

Moving slightly away from topic, my concern with these types of ignition is that when there is a fault you struggle to "swap" a part with a known good one (unless you buy 2 kits). I had a Varitronic but changed to a BGM stator as I knew I could always get spares (at the roadside/rally/etc).

I have one in my Lince.

No auto advance/retard but superb lighting (well bright anyway - lack of focus lets the lighting down but that's naff all to do with the stator.

The CDI doesn't appear to be anything unusual and the regulator looks pretty standard too.

The flywheel and stator are obviously different but you could swap them out for an other type and get home I suspect.

Has anyone had one of these fail?

Knowledge did a review on these kits in jet set not so long ago.

They look a nice bit of kit, not seen one in the flesh yet.
Is that 2 yellow cables coming out of the loom? Possibly ready for a DC conversion?
I'll have to dig that jetset Knowledge did the review in.

I have one to fit to a motor I plan to build. I got it from Brolam and I mailed them about the possibilities of DC. There doesn't seem to be much info around on the web about it. Brolam said they were testing a DC conversion and would get back to me about it but not heard anything.

Three phase dc kit and one of the three phases has a burnt out coil, everything still worked and I had lights but not as bright as before so I took it apart to see why and found that one lighting coil had burnt out.

At the time I didnt know what caused it to burn out as there wasn't a fault with the scooter electrics and a straight swap back to Ducati (stator flywheel CDI and ac regulator) and everything worked and still does. I had to add a mini bridge rectifier after I refitted the Ducati kit just to supply dc to my revcounter which also supplies power to the brake light.

The electric kit was fitted to my GP which at the time was running almost totally standard electrics except for the addition of a revcounter, I suspect the rectifier failed and shorted out one phase of the stator.

The rectifier did show up as faulty when I checked it out.

But it's not a dig at the kit, I like them and have a new 3 phase dc kit to fit to my GP some time soon 8-)

Mark,
Can you answer the question as to whether they can be used as a full DC?
Are the numerous yellows just the ends of the coils of the 3 phases?
How have they wired the 3 phases?
Interesting...........

Not sure if mines wired up in a Delta or Star configuration but both of my kits are fully rectified 12v DC three phase stators.

There was an Oily Rag article on the Electrex ignition system, but I was not the author.
